You have your traditional style kitchen island, in which is is connected to the flooring and you can’t see underneath it. Within this category you have four different styles. Small islands, large islands, islands with built in table and seating areas or an island with a large amount of storage areas.
If you’re looking to save space but you will want some extra prep area, then a small island is the one for you. It gives you some extra storage and counter space without taking up too much floor space.
You have more to play with when it comes to adding a large island to your fitted kitchen. You not only have more storage and prep space, you can also add appliances into your island. That would be your hob and extractor fan, your oven or even a wine chiller.
If you’re looking to really push the boat out and add some luxury to your kitchen, then you could get a kitchen island with a table and seating area connected to it. Having the two separate levels helps to break up the room and easily combines both cooking and socialisation areas.
If you already have a separate dining room, then maybe you can just make the most out of your island by using it for different types of storage. You can have shelves, cupboards, hanging spaces, bottle shelves etc!
You also have the choice of having a free standing kitchen island. You’ll be able to see the floor underneath your island, making the kitchen appear bigger, the perfect island for a smaller sized kitchen.
